CNP calls for transport support
The Campaign for National Parks (CNP) has called on the government to provide dedicated funding to support sustainable transport for England’s National Parks.
According to CNP, measures to reduce the amount of visitors who arrive to parks using their own car would lead to a better experience for park users – and if probably managed could also be used as a source of revenue for national parks.
The CNP is campaigning for the introduction of park and ride schemes and improving community transport services.
Alex Thursby, CNP’s transport campaigner, said: “Millions of people visit the Parks every year and a staggering 90 per cent of visitors arrive by car.
"High traffic levels have a major impact on the National Park environment, and no one enjoys being stuck in traffic – let alone having an otherwise peaceful walk or picnic destroyed by the noise and pollution that inevitably come with overloaded roads."
