Caborn defends casino panel
Culture minister Richard Caborn has defended Casino Advisory Panel’s decision to award the supercasino to Manchester.
Caborn said the CAP had done a "professional job" in choosing the supercasino site and 16 other sites for smaller casinos.
He said: "Those who the decisions were in favour of, the 17, would say it was very fair, transparent and objective. Those who didn't win think it is the worse thing that's ever happened.”
The comments came as the government announced that the Commons debat e on the casino decision – due later this month – will be twice as long as the usual three hours.
The extension is designed to allow those MPs with concerns to air their apprehensions.
