Caldy Nature Park set to open
A special event is set to mark the official opening of Caldy Nature Park in Chester on 23 April, following the completion of a scheme to enhance the wetland habitats.
The environmental improvement project was led by Chester West and Chester Council (CWCC), which has involved work to restore and upgrade the main pond and create a new wetland scrape. Enhanced access; a new art feature at the main entrance; a new natural play area and upgraded information signage have formed part of the project, which started in April 2009.
Countryside management contractor Three Shires delivered the scheme, the main part of which was carried out between October and December 2009 to reduce the impact on wildlife. Artist Colin Spofforth was commissioned to provide the art work. CWCC director of environment and area and community Steve Kent said: "New wetland areas have been created and the flow of water throughout the Park has been improved, making the Park more attractive for people and wildlife alike."
The work was funded by CWCC; Waste Recycling Group through the Landfill Communities Fund; the Department for Children, Schools and Families; Huntingdon and Great Boughton Parish Councils; and the Cheshire region Biodiversity Partnership Small Grant Scheme.
