CanCan unveils US$450m Mississippi plans
CanCan Development has announced its plans for a US$450m (£281m, EUR319m) casino, resort and French-themed retail and entertainment village in D'Iberville, Mississippi, US.
It is hoped the 18-acre (7.3-hectare) development will create around 2,000 jobs and bring in "much-needed" tax revenue to an area affected by Hurricane Katrina and the BP oil spill. The scheme will comprise a 60,000sq ft (5,574sq m) casino with 46 table games, 1,800 slot machines and 16 live poker tables, as well as a showroom and 550 hotel rooms.
A 300-room French-themed standalone hotel will feature as part of the hospitality element, while a spa will also be included in the development; details on which aren't yet known. According to a spokesperson, groundbreaking on the scheme is anticipated to take place in July. Leo A Daly are the architects behind the design of the complex.
CanCan Development president and chief executive officer George Toth said: "We expect this project to serve as a catalyst for the revitalization of the D'Iberville-Biloxi area and the entire Gulf Coast region. "The mix of unique entertainment, hospitality and cultural offerings will draw tourists from across the country and the world, adding to the city's tax base and providing significant indirect revenues to businesses in the region."
