Captain EO returns to Disneyland
Captain EO, the musical spectacular featuring Michael Jackson that ran at Disneyland between 1986-97, has returned to the Anaheim, California, US theme park.
The 17-minute, 3D film was first created in 1986 when Jackson joined forces with Disney, producer George Lucas and director Francis Ford Coppola. Jackson played Captain EO - performing two original songs - and appeared alongside actress Anjelica Huston and a cast of mythical space characters with dual personalities who undergo magical transformations to become Jackson's electronic band in conquering the forces of darkness.
A host of Disney-created characters also appeared, among them Hooter, Fuzzball, the Geex and both Major and Minor Domo. It has not been possible to replicate some of the special effects elements from the original presentation, such as lasers and starfields, but the show - now entitled Captain EO Tribute and showing regularly at the park's 'Tomorrowland' attraction - will boast a new 70mm print of the film and benefit from various acoustic enhancements made to the theatre since it last played there.
