Cardiff temporary ice rink materials arrive
Materials to build a temporary ice rink at the International Sports Village in Cardiff are set to arrive in the city over the next two days, after having been shipped in from Finland.
The new rink will be a temporary replacement for the existing Wales National Ice Rink, which is being demolished as part of the St David's 2 development in the city centre.
The materials will arrive in four different deliveries, under special escort, due to the abnormal length of the loads, and includes the rink's laminated timber frame.
Site preparation work by contractor, Ice Associates, is well underway with piling and foundations already in place, although an operator for the 2,000-seat venue – which will also feature changing facilities, offices and cafeterias – has not yet been found.
The temporary facility is expected to be in place for between three to five years and will be replaced by a permanent facility within a multi purpose arena.
Work is expected to be completed in September.
