Carmarthenshire County Council is spearheading a campaign to encourage local private, public and voluntary organisations to invest £50m in the county’s leisure development over the next five years.

Proposals include investment in outdoor recreation, culture and indoor wet weather activities, improved access to the countryside, raised standards at all main leisure facilities and revamped parks, playgrounds, changing rooms and sports pitches.

The council also aims to increase the amount spent per person on leisure, arts and culture to above the national average, as well as free or discounted schemes for its facilities.

Leisure executive board member Cllr Clive Scourfield said: “Leisure has a fundamental part to play in making Carmarthenshire a better place to live, visit and enjoy. The county council will undertake a key role in delivering this vision, pulling together our partners and communities and providing the support and expertise where appropriate to drive this agenda forward.” Details: www.carmarthenshire.gov.uk
