Cecil Rhodes’s museum reopens
The Bishop’s Stortford Museum in Hertfordshire, UK has reopened following a £1.4m refurbishment.
The museum – which was created following the merging of the Rhodes Memorial Museum and the Bishop’s Stortford Local History Museum in 2002 – has seen a complete revamp of its two Grade II-listed Victorian buildings, turning it into one of the largest community venues in the area.
The museum houses collections relating to local history, archaeology, the life of statesman Cecil Rhodes and Southern Africa and includes photographs, portraits, models, costumes, furniture and a selection of ethnographic objects.
The work, which took six years to complete, was undertaken by Leicester-based Haley Sharpe Design, PHT Consultants and Latham Architects. Details: +44 (0)1279 651746
