Champions League winners 'to net £100m'
Italian football club Inter Milan is set to receive more than €120m (£100m) after winning the 2010 UEFA Champions League final, according to Mastercard.
Research commissioned by the credit card company - one of the tournament's sponsors - found the economic impact of this year's Champions League had increased by €41.5m (£35.5m). According to the study, developed by Professor Simon Chadwick, Bayern Munich of Germany is set to receive €70m (£59.9m) for losing the final on 22 May.
Madrid, Spain, will benefit from a €50m (£42.8m) windfall as a result of hosting the Champions League final, while the overall economic boost across Europe is estimated to be €351.5m (£300.5m). Chadwick said: "It's clear that football is booming, despite neither an English or Spanish club featuring in the final for the first time in five years. The 2010 UEFA Champions League Final is set to break new ground in terms of its massive economic impact."
