Blantyre Capital has sold half of its shares in The Gym Group to new and existing shareholders.

The offer was oversubscribed, with shares having been placed with existing and new institutional and family office investors of the high value low cost operator.

Following the transaction, which took place on 21 July, Blantyre will retain a significant shareholding in the company. Prior to the transaction the investor held 11.17 per cent of the shares and now it holds 6.15 per cent.

Blantyre has agreed to a lock-up undertaking in respect of its remaining shareholding, which restricts the disposal of any further shares held by Blantyre for a period of 6 months following 15 July 2025, subject to customary exemptions and waiver provisions.

Earlier this month, The Gym Group released its half year results showing that membership was up by 4 per cent on a like-for-like basis and revenue up by 8 per cent.

CEO, Will Orr, said the company was in a “virtuous circle of sustained growth” with improving returns on the mature estate, new sites performing well and new site funded from cashflow.

The company is also gearing up to support GLP-1 users by training its staff to have a wider understanding of GLP-1s and the expert knowledge required to support the people who are using them.

Delivered by The Well HQ, these training sessions will cover the science behind GLP-1s, understanding how they work, their impact on the body, potential risks – especially under-fuelling and the importance of strength training – and how exercise can be a helpful tool to protect bones and muscles, and sustain the benefits of the medication.

Ruth Jackson, chief people officer at The Gym Group, says: “At The Gym Group, it’s our mission to break down barriers to fitness for all, so we are proud to be partnering with The Well HQ once again to deliver this essential GLP-1 training. We’ve been seeing how rapidly GLP-1 uptake is growing in the UK and knew that, as a business, we wanted to act quickly and equip our staff with the expert knowledge needed to give our members choosing to use this medication the support and guidance they need.”

Dr Emma Ross, co founder of The Well HQ and chief scientific officer at The Well HQ, says: “The Gym Group’s decision to proactively train their PTs on how these medications affect appetite, fuelling, and training shows a real commitment to meeting people where they are, and ensuring that everyone can continue to exercise safely, effectively, and with long-term health in mind.”
