Cheshire leisure plans to move forward
A proposed £31m investment in leisure facilities for Chester and Ellesmere Port could take a step forward tomorrow (2 November) if given the green light by the local authority.
The procurement of a strategic partner to help deliver the proposals is one of the items that Cheshire West and Chester Council's (CWCC) executive are being asked to approve.
Members will also be asked to back Stanney Oaks as the preferred location of a new £11m facility in Ellesmere Port and to bring forward the £5m Chester City Baths project.
If approved the new Ellesmere Port venue will offer wet and dry facilities; a regional indoor sports arena; and an events venue, replacing the town's existing EPIC centre.
Meanwhile, the Chester City Baths redevelopment is to be recategorised as 'priority one' in order to undertake the scheme between 2011 and 2014.
Both projects will form part of a wider £59.5m investment in local leisure facilities over a 10-year period, with consultancy Knights Kavanagh Page working with CWCC.
CWCC executive member for culture and recreation Stuart Parker said: "We are now ready to identify a suitable partner to help us deliver this major investment which will provide the people of Chester and Ellesmere Port with top quality facilities."
