Children's theatre for London
London Borough of Southwark has granted planning permission for an £11.25m Unicorn Theatre near Tower Bridge.
The project, planned by children's theatre producer, Unicorn, and designed by Keith Williams Architects, will include a 350-seat auditorium, 120-seat studio theatre, education studio and rehearsal studio.
Due to open in 2004, the theatre has received £4.5m from National Lottery funds and been awarded £1.2m by the Pool of London Partnership. The remaining funding will be sought from private and public sources.
Artistic Director Tony Graham said, 'The project will significantly enhance children's opportunities to enjoy and participate in theatre in spaces designed to challenge and celebrate their imagination.' Details: +44 (0)20 7700 0702
