Chiva-Som Hua Hin is celebrating its 30th anniversary with a 'season of reflection', which will see visiting practitioners delivering complimentary educational sessions and paid treatments to guests.

One of the most notable is face sculptor Masa Sugiyama, a Japanese-born facial therapist who is currently based in France. Sugiyama will educate resort guests about her signature non-surgical cranial massage technique.

Called the Masa Methode, the treatment sculpts the face by relieving muscle tightness and reducing swelling, which enhances facial contours and can makes the face appear better defined.

The Masa Methode targets the masticatory muscles in the jaw, as well as muscles in tension-prone areas, such as the occipital muscles at the base of the skull.

Gentle yet precise movements improve lymphatic drainage and blood circulation, while deep tissue massage during the therapy can also improve the firmness of skin and the absorption of ingredients from products.

Sugiyama will teach elements of her method on a complimentary basis during two sessions called Anti-Ageing Face and Neck and Postural Facial Shaping. Each will last around 45 minutes.

As a visiting consultant, she will also offer initial 80-minute treatments for THB10,000 (US$302, €267, £227), while follow-up 50-minute treatments cost THB8,300 (US$251, €221, £189).

These sessions are part of the four months of retreats during the season of reflection. Featured practitioners from around the world will deliver talks, activities and holistic experiences designed to help guests transform their minds and bodies.

Each will have a different theme:

• June: Exercise and mental health

• July: Strengthening from the inside out• August: Longevity, men and women’s Health and holistic harmony

• September: Heart health and hormonal balance

Chiva-Som Hua Hin opened in 1995 as a holistic wellbeing retreat and has continued to blend Western practices with Eastern philosophies to provide guests to improve physical and mental health.
