Cineworld sales up in 2010
Cineworld Group has issued figures for the year to 30 December 2010 showing total revenues up 4.7 per cent on the same period the previous year.
2010 saw the release of 2D films including The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, Inception and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (part 1), while 3D films such as Toy Story 3, Alice in Wonderland, Shrek Forever After and Avatar are reported to have made a 'significant contribution' to the figures. Both box office and retail income were hit by the bad weather in December but Cineworld anticipates that its strong performance during the rest of the year will see overall profitability to be within market expectations.
Looking ahead, the digital roll out at the company's cinemas is continuing and film releases in 2011 are scheduled to include the 3D launches of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (part 2), Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and Tintin, plus the releases in 2D of Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn (part 1), X-Men: First Class and a Sherlock Holmes sequel.
