City planners invite theme park proposals
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has invited tenders to submit their proposals to develop a theme park in the Indian city.
AMC, which is responsible for the civic infrastructure and administration of the city, is hoping that a "global company" would take up the challenge to transform the Balvatika site on the shores of Kankaria Lake into a international quality attraction.
Current facilities at the existing attraction include 16 rides, most of which are designed for children.
A spokesperson for AMC said the city was looking for a company to build and operate the 2,600sq m (28,000sq ft) site.
The move is part of a larger redevelopment programme of the Kankaria Lake. The central garden in the middle of the lake, called Nagina Wadi, has recently been revamped and the walkway leading to it has been improved.
Attractions around the lake include a natural history museum, a zoo and an open air theatre.
Kankaria is the largest lake in the city of Ahmedabad, which located in the western Indian state of Gujarat.
