Claridges Surajkund spa to open
Spa management company Spatality has confirmed that it will open the Claridges Spa at The Claridges, Surajkund, India on 1 October.
The spa was initially slated to open in May 2009, but the opening was pushed back due to the economic downturn.
Peter Davis, spokesperson for Spatality, said: "Like many projects, this project was delayed due to cost cutting measures and construction delays in the recent credit crunch.
"Originally planned as a complete one phase project, the spa and some of the room inventory were instead slotted into a second phase."
Spatality has been involved with the project since the beginning, providing design consultation, pre-opening and technical services, and marketing plan assistance. The firm is now providing ongoing management services for the spa.
Designed by Bangkok, Thailand-based interior designers PIA, the 15,5000sq ft spa spans two floors within the 150-bedroom Claridges hotel and houses of ten treatment rooms, a luxury spa suite, beauty stations, wet facilities and a fitness area.
Signature spaces include a 'baoli' entrance, nails hall and dedicated steam and sauna facilities with ice fountains.
The spa menu, also developed in conjunction with Spatality, provides a selection of more than 30 treatments including Ayurvedic experiences and bespoke body rituals.
The treatments use products from Aromatherapy Associates, Leighton Denny and Philip Kingsley. For a local touch, products by India-based Sahyadri are used in all Ayurvedic treatments.
Spatality CEO, Ingo Schweder said: "The spa is not only gorgeous, it is staffed by some of the best therapists in India - no fewer than three award-winning colleagues form the core staff. And in all my time in India - creating Rajvilas, Amarvilas, Udaivilas and Ananda in the Himalayas - I can honestly say that I have not seen a more avant-garde spa in the country."
