Club Company plans fitness facelift for newly-acquired country club
Country club and golf operator The Club Company has snapped up Wharton Park Golf and Country Club in Worcestershire, with plans to add a sizeable health and fitness facility as part of the undisclosed investment.
Having been named Health Club Operator of the Year at the 2015 Flame Awards, Club Company told Health Club Management it’s planning to replicate the winning formula at Wharton Park, with further details of the proposition to be released “in due course.”
Situated on the edge of the historic, riverside town of Bewdley, surrounded by the Wyre Forest and Worcestershire countryside. Wharton Park features an 18-hole championship golf course considered to be one of the finest in the county.
Commenting on the deal, CEO of The Club Company Thierry Delsol said: “We are delighted with the purchase of Wharton Park, having been attracted by its high quality facilities and excellent location.
“In time and with additional investment, Wharton Park will fit the Club Company model, offering golf and extensive health and fitness facilities to suit all the family.”
Having been acquired by US-based private equity firm Lone Star earlier this year, Club Company has been putting the financial backing of its partner to good use across the 11-strong Club Company portfolio.
In addition to the latest purchase, the operator recently kicked off a £2m redevelopment of the Castle Royle in Berkshire, as well as a £5m project at The Warwickshire, where the company is building a four-star hotel and making significant improvements to the gym and studio facilities.
“Lone Star, our financial backers, have been very supportive,” added Delsol.
“The recent acquisition (Wharton Park) and investment programmes at Castle Royle and The Warwickshire demonstrate our desire to grow the company.”
