Coliseum reopens after £41m revamp
A four-year refurbishment program is now complete and the home of the English National Opera (ENO), The Coliseum, re-opened to public on 21 February.
The revamp was funded by a number of grants and private sector contributions, including a £23m cash injection from Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund.
Delays in building work mean the intended opening production at the improved facility, John Adams’s Nixon in China, has been knocked of the programme list.
Instead, the ENO will now officially relaunch its performances on Friday 27 February with Wagner’s Rhinegold, directed by Phyllida Lloyd.
The re-launch was attended by Princess Alexandra and the Duke of Kent, along with 2,400 other guests.
A single scene from the axed production, Nixon in China, was performed, featuring Janis Kelly and Gerald Finley. Details: www.eno.org
