Commercial leisure is the saviour of the high street
Vacant spaces in high streets left by the effects of the recession are starting to be filled by leisure-related business.
A report by the Local Data Company (LDC) has revealed an improving picture for high streets, with cafés, restaurants and betting shops filling unoccupied spaces.
“(Leisure facilities) have come to the rescue as it takes off in our town centres,” said LDC director, Matthew Hopkinson.
Overall store vacancy - measured in February - fell from 14.1 per cent from 14.2 percent.
