Community initiative launches in West London
A new initiative to give children with emotional and behavioural difficulties greater access to sports facilities has been launched in West London.
The Gibbs Greener Special School will benefit from a new multi-use sports pitch, which will enable pupils to access football and other sports, helping develop self esteem and interpersonal skills.
The new pitch will also be used by five other local primary schools for after school sessions and holiday coaching.
The Gibbs Greener project is a partnership between Chelsea FC, the Football Foundation and HSBC bank and is being funded with a £114,000 grant from the Football Foundation.
Chelsea star Frank Lampard was at the launch of the programe, and said: "It's important that football and the players put something back into the game and I'm really happy to be able to play a part in helping launch this project and thank the Football Foundation and other partners for all their hard work and support.
"Football is a sport that can help kids develop not only their talent but also as people. Chelsea is getting really involved in their local community both in London and Surrey and I'm delighted to support this vital work," he added.
