Construction begins at landmark London hotel
Work has begun on the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge hotel in London.
The 14-storey hotel will boast 952 rooms and 26,909sq ft (2,500sq m) of conference space.
Designed by BUJ Architects and Uri Blumenthal Architects & Town Planners, the new hotel will feature a number of eco-friendly technologies such as an on-site filtered water bottling factory, eliminating the need to transport and dispose of an estimated one million bottles of water per year.
Boris Ivesha, president and chief executive officer for Park Plaza Hotels, said: “Demand for London continues to grow, fuelled by a buoyant business climate, emerging markets such as China and India, the impact of Heathrow Terminal 5 and the London 2012 Olympics.”
The Park Plaza Westminster Bridge will open in 2010 while the group’s 400-room Park Plaza County Hall is due to open on London’s South Bank in September this year.
