Cornwall Council to hand over running of leisure centre
Cost-cutting measures in Cornwall are said to include the council offloading responsibility for running the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin.
The facility is scheduled to be run as a trust from next year, saving the council around £450,000 per year. Under the plans currently being worked on, a board of trustees would be appointed and a new management structure put in place to oversee day-to-day operations.
However, the move has been attacked by a town councillor who fears it could lead to the centre being closed down. Cornwall Council has said it would still be prepared to subsidise the site, but forming a new trust would give local people a greater say in how it is run and developed.
