Coronet rises from ruins to become multi-purpose venue
A three-level, multi-purpose venue opens in Elephant & Castle, London, next week.
The Coronet - originally constructed in 1872 as the Theatre Royal and converted into a three-screen multiplex cinema in 1981 - has undergone a £2m refurbishment programme after falling into disrepair.
The venue, which opens this week, provides both a nightclub, live music, movie theatre and performance space venue as well as a corporate event and conference facility.
Designed by architects, Kracka, The Coronet 'fuses a new edgy urban look with the original deco features and the natural beauty, space and presence of the building'.
Acquired by Pure Group in 2001, the venue will be managed by Pure Management.
'Our aim is to provide a creative multi-purpose space that will allow event organisers to realise the potential of this stunning venue,' says Pure Group managing director, Jeremy Millins.
The Coronet will host everything from international bands and community events to dinner parties and film premieres.
