The Corpus Christi Catholic Sports College in Preston, Lancashire, has completed a comprehensive redevelopment of its fitness facilities.

The new fitness suite, housed in a new building at the school, replaces the previous facility which was no longer able to cope for the demand from users.

Key features within the new facility include Technogym’s Kinesis concept. Corpus Christi is one of the only schools in the country to feature the range of exercise machines.

In addition to Kinesis, the gym features two pieces of CardioWave and other equipment including treadmills and cross trainers. Resistance equipment includes leg press, chest press, bike and recline bike and Concept 2 rowers.

Martin Callagher, head teacher at Corpus Christi, said the inspiration to install equipment came form visiting private health clubs.

He said: “Technogym arranged for us to visit several of their reference sites at the stage when we were considering which fitness equipment supplier to work with and we were particularly impressed with the equipment we saw at the private health clubs, particularly Kinesis and CardioWave.

“It got us thinking that to really to create a ‘wow’ factor at our new facility, we should try and offer our users a private health club experience, complete with the latest and most innovative products.”

The facility is also open to the local community and one of the most popular features is Cardio Club, a rehabilitation programme aimed at people from the Heartbeat group who have suffered heart attacks or undergone surgery.

The college is also one of the UK’s first colleges to offer its staff a health screening in cooperation with Apple Wellbeing, a health screening company.

Corpus Christi plans to hire the facility out to fitness instructors and physiotherapists on an hourly basis and aims to target elite athletes for performance training thanks to the fact that the facility boasts one of the best ranges of fitness equipment in the area.
