Council approves revised Greenock leisure plans
A proposed new £10.9m leisure centre at Rankin Park, Greenock, has been shelved after the local authority approved a revised package of schemes in a bid to cut costs.
Inverclyde Council had planned to replace the existing Nelson Street Sports Centre, but new proposals will see the facility retained and upgraded at a cost of £600,000. Meanwhile, Rankin Park will benefit from a £2.25m covered five-a-side football venue and a £1.4m grass pitch and pavilion.
Schemes also include a £315,000 upgrade of the South West Library and a new £500,000 community centre for the Wellington area of Greenock. A report put before councillors said: "The Rankin Park development involves the largest level of planned investment, which has not yet been committed, and therefore provides a significant opportunity to review the level of proposed investment."
