Council approves £8.7m leisure centre for Surrey
Reigate & Banstead Borough Council has approved plans for an £8.7m leisure, community and youth centre for a site at Preston, Surrey.
The development would include a 25m six-lane swimming pool, teaching pool, 50-station gym, dance and exercise studios, four-court sports hall, football pitches, café, crèche and wet and dry changing studios.
Construction is expected to start in autumn and be complete within a year.
An application for 130 new homes on the site of the existing Banstead Leisure Centre, which will remain open until replacement facilities open, has also been approved.
The development is being funded by a joint venture between the Reigate & Banstead Borough Council and the Surrey County Council.
Councillor Adam De Save said: "It is fantastic news for local residents that the exciting new leisure facilities and much needed new and affordable homes that local people have been promised are moving closer to becoming a reality."
