Everyone Active has won the tender to continue running leisure centres in the London Borough of Havering, with the local Council planning to spend £29m on sports facilities.

Everyone Active, which trades under the name Sports and Leisure Management (SLM), has been Havering Council’s leisure centre operator for two decades and has been appointed to run facilities for a further 20 years. The company will be working with the council to provide a range of leisure facilities in improved or new buildings.

A new facility is planned for Hornchurch, subject to planning permission. Work on new centres in Broxhill and Romford are already under way. Central Park Leisure Centre will be refurbished once planning permission has been granted and there are also plans to renovate Chafford Sports Complex in the borough.

?Hornchurch Leisure Centre is planned to open in 2019. The centre will include a 25m eight-lane pool, a leaner and diving pool with an adjustable floor, a 150 station health and fitness gym, a sports hall, two studios, a sauna and steam room, and a café.

Romford Leisure Centre is due to open in April 2018. The new leisure centre will have two pools and an ice rink, with capacity for more than 1,200 skaters.

Broxhill Sports Park is due to open by November this year. The facility will consist of a full size 3G artificial pitch, a multi-use games area with four floodlit tennis courts that can also be used for netball, basketball and five-a-side football, two indoor sports halls, a café and bar, a physiotherapy room and Havering Disabled Sports Association Clubhouse.

Refurbishment to the Central Park Leisure Centre, which opened in 2004, will include a new reception and retail area, extension of the fitness suite and a new exercise studio. If planning is granted, work is expected to be completed in April 2017.

Refurbishment to Chafford Sports Complex will include a new roof, gym extension and refurbished changing rooms. Work on this project is subject to agreement with the Chafford School.

David Bibby, Everyone Active managing director, said: “Everyone Active is committed to engaging with local communities to help more people to be active and live a healthier lifestyle. Our focus is now on continuing to manage the centres to the highest standard making sure the renovations run smoothly with as little disruption to our members as possible.”
