Council considers WaterSpace feedback
Daventry District Council (DDC) has responded to feedback from a public consultation held earlier this year to gather views on proposals for the new mixed-use WaterSpace development.
According to the council, the consultation revealed that 62 per cent of those who took part were in favour of the scheme, while also raising a range of issues that will require "further attention". The proposed WaterSpace development aims to transform the Daventry's Eastern Way playing field and the canal arm, including an extension to the Grand Union Canal, more than 20,000sq ft (1,858sq m) of restaurant and bar space and a hotel.
A cinema, a health club, a housing development and 70,000sq ft (7,432sq m) of office space were also put forward as part of plans drawn up by architects BDP and property consultants Knight Frank earlier this year. A DDC spokesperson said: "The large number of comments made on aspects of the scheme will now be taken on board to develop the proposals before they are taken to the planning stage later in the year.
"They range from concerns over traffic issues and how the scheme will be funded to praise for the creativity of the proposals, their potential to attract further investment into the district and identifying the potential for new leisure facilities such as a cinema."
