Council launches Jarrow pool consultation
South Tyneside Council (STC) is inviting local residents to have their say on plans for the development of a new swimming pool in Jarrow.
Under the council's plans, the four-lane, 25m pool facility would be used by schools, swim teams and other groups, and not as a community pool with open access. inspiredspaces - set up by construction company Carillion and joint venture partners under the Building Schools for the Future initiative - has identified four possible options for the scheme.
The first option would see a facility developed on a site south of the proposed Jarrow School car park, while option B is located adjacent to the school's planned indoor sports facilities. A third option will see the pool built south of the planned school building and the fourth proposal is located between Springwell Road and Bede Burn Road.
Each option would have to be able to accommodate a pool with depth at one end to allow for competitive dive starts. A hydraulic floor to cater for young people and changing facilities are also planned.
