Lincolnshire sports ground set for £2.3m revamp
Plans for a £2.3m (US$3.3m, €3m) sports ground development just outside Scunthorpe have been given the go-ahead by North Lincolnshire Council.
Brigg Recreation Ground – located to the east of the town on Wrawby Road – will benefit from a full-size floodlit artificial grass pitch for football, hockey and cricket, as well as tennis courts. Work will begin on the site in spring 2016 and is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Funding for the project is coming from North Lincolnshire Council, which also used its in-house team to design the ground.
Councillor Carl Sherwood, cabinet member for customer services, sport and leisure, said the ground was a “key outdoor facility for Brigg and its surrounding areas”.
“The provision for first class facilities at the Recreation Ground is important for sport in the Brigg area,” he added. “The facilities will improve the offer for existing clubs that use the site and act as a springboard to enable cricket, tennis and hockey to once again be played on the site.”
