Council maintains pool closure position
Clackmannanshire Council has maintained its position regarding the closure of a swimming pool in Alva, which shut its doors at the end of June in order to reduce expenditure.
Talks with a community group took place in May with a view to keeping the venue open, but the local authority said that it will not accept plans that require an ongoing subsidy. Council portfolio holder for sustainability Eddie Carrick said: "The council cannot accept a proposal which requires ongoing funding from the council: our balanced budget includes the savings to be made by closing the pool.
"We also consider the income generation target to be unrealistic. Unfortunately, this means the proposals so far presented are not viable."
