Council raises Northampton athletics concerns
A report put before Northampton Borough Council (NBC) on 28 March has raised concerns over the condition of an athletics track next to the town's Sixfields venue.
The overview and scrutiny committee discussed the terms of a lease between NBC and Northampton Town Football Club (NTFC), which plays its home games at Sixfields. It comes after concerns from the Northampton and Rugby Athletics Club that the facilities had deteriorated and that NTFC was 'contractually obliged' to provide maintenance.
According to the NBC report, the lease agreement did not help in the practical management of the athletics track and identified a number of shortcomings. Recommendations put forward in the report include talks between NBC and NTFC to help ensure the athletics facility is maintained and the club's obligations are 'clarified'.
