Council 'reaffirms' Bridgwater pool plans
Sedgemoor District Council (SDC) has 'reaffirmed' its plans to develop a swimming pool alongside the new Chilton Trinity School in Bridgwater, Somerset.
Pressure group Bridgwater Forward had petitioned the council to scrap the current plans in order to investigate the possibility of building the new facility at the Northgate site. However, SDC has reiterated its plans to pursue the Chilton Trinity scheme in partnership with BAM Construction as part of the Building Schools for the Future programme.
The 4,917sq m (52,926sq ft) facility - designed by architects Scott Brownrigg - is to include a 25m six-lane pool and a learner pool, as well as spectator seating for 100 people and a 50-station fitness suite. SDC group manager of community development and wellbeing Teresa Harvey said: "Residents are inputting their ideas via our pool task and finish group and this is proving invaluable in helping us shape the community focus of the project."
Knight, Kavanagh and Page is also involved with the scheme, which will see the new swimming pool open to the public by spring 2013.
