Council reviews plans for £53m sports stadium
By Helen Patenall
Edinburgh City Council is reviewing the proposed design plans for a new £53m sports stadium in the Sighthill area of the city.
The facility – to replace the dilapidated Meadowbank Stadium – will comprise two separate athletics and rugby arenas.
The initial proposals have been criticised for placing a running track between the stands and the rugby pitch, as such a design could compromise the atmosphere and viewpoint.
Other possibilities, including the cost impact and construction timetable, will now be discussed to see how best to move forward.
