Council secures Leeds site for regeneration
Leeds City Council (LCC) has confirmed the acquisition of 7 acres (2.8 hectares) of land to the rear of Elland Road stadium in Beeston, which has been earmarked for regeneration.
In total, the local authority is looking to develop 40 acres (16.2 hectares) of land around the home of Leeds United Football Club - currently used as a matchday car park. It is hoped that in redeveloping the site, the scheme will provide a boost to the communities of Beeston and Holbeck. A masterplan for the area was published in 2007 by LCC.
LCC executive member with responsibility for city development Richard Lewis said: "The acquisition will give the council greater control to deliver the comprehensive redevelopment of land around Elland Road football stadium."
