Council to close Morecambe venue
Lancaster City Council (LCC) has voted in favour of proposals to close down a music and entertainment venue in Morecambe from June next year in an attempt to save money.
The Dome, which has hosted acts including the Arctic Monkeys and The Kooks in recent months, could now face demolition as part of the council's cost-cutting measures. A meeting of the council's cabinet on 9 December resolved to immediately stop taking bookings for events at the venue beyond the planned closure date of 1 June 2009 after a report revealed that repairs and refurbishment at the venue would cost around £500,000.
LCC also decided that it will consider investing more than £132,000 in upgrading the town's Platform venue, although the council is unable to commit the necessary funds at this time.
