Coventry ups casino bid
Coventry City Council is reportedly writing to the government to strengthen its bid for the nation’s first regional casino, following the imminent closure of the Peugeot plant in the city.
The council hopes that the supercasino will help relocate some of the 2,300 people expected to lose their jobs when the PSA Peugeot-Citroen plant closes in the summer of next year.
The casino would be part of the £113m regeneration scheme at the RICOH Arena, home of Coventry City Football Club.
The city is up against 26 other bids from across the country, including the favourite, Blackpool.
