D-Tec wins contract to protect Olympics venue
Video smoke detection (vsd) technology company, Buckinghamshire-based D-Tec, has won a contract to protect the Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre near Marathon against the risk of fire.
Bordering the two lakes which make up the venue, is a 5.2km area of forest and scrub land which will probably be tinder dry in August when the Games take place. Under the agreement, D-Tec will supply a system linked to a series of fire suppression cannons.
The vsd software runs on conventional cctv cameras – connected to monitors in a central control room – which are placed on four towers throughout the forest.
Extensive use of image processing software is made by the system to identify the distinctive characteristics of smoke, sending an operator an automatic, on-screen visual indication of a fire’s source.
