During his career in the active leisure industry, Philpott has also been director of the Fitness Industry Association and chair of SkillsActive's Sports and Fitness Employers Group. Philpott, who is also currently a governor and a founding trustee of the Register of Exercise Professionals, will take up his appointment on 26 September.
IMSPA board chair Marc Newey said: "Here at IMSPA we aim to represent all of the one million professionals working within the sector with one unified voice, and this is certainly an area in which Steve can add real value."
