DCMS signs School Games deal with Brazil
Culture secretary Jeremy Hunt has revealed that the UK's School Games concept is to "go global" as the result of a new deal with the organisers of the Rio 2016 Games in Brazil.
Brazilian children will be invited to take park in the first ever national School Games final in May 2012, which is due to take place in London's Olympic Park. In return, UK schoolchildren will participate in Brazil's Olimpiadas Escolares programme - an initiative that aims to drive up youth participation in sport.
Hunt said: "This new link with Rio 2016 will boost the international and domestic legacies from London 2012."
