D+D acquires Image
Restaurant operator D&D London is set to expand its portfolio by acquiring Image Restaurants.
Image owns The Avenue, Kensington Place and Launceston Place restaurants in London.
Image’s CEO, Chris Bodker, who will join the D&D board as a non-executive director on completion of the sale, said: “D&D’s portfolio of restaurants is second to none. They have reshaped the way we eat out in this country.
“Our shareholders, staff and suppliers can only regard this move as good news. For my own part, I believe that D&D London will take our restaurants to a new level and I look forward to playing a modest part in that.”
Des Gunewardena, CEO of D&D, added: “Kensington Place and The Avenue are two restaurants that defined the renaissance of eating out in London in the 1990s. I’m excited that they will be joining the D&D group.”
In addition, D&D London is developing a rooftop restaurant – designed by Conran & Partner – at The Cube in Birmingham, which is due to open in 2010. Overseas plans include the opening a further eight to ten restaurants in Japan over the next few years, in partnership with Japanese restaurant group Hiramatsu. Details: www.danddlondon.com
