Dallas art museum receives $400m collections in bequests
The Dallas Museum of Art (DMA) in the USA is to receive around 800 works of art in donations from three private collections worth over $400m (£213m, 309m euros).
Combined, the bequests – which the museum probably won’t receive for several decades – are the largest gift to be made to the museum in its history. They include the collections of Marguerite and Robert Hoffman – valued as being worth $150m (£79m, 115m euros) alone – Cindy and Howard Rachofsky and Deedie and Rusty Rose.
Artists work donated to the DMA’s permanent collection includes Richard Serra, Willem de Kooning and Gerhard Richter while Margaret McDermott has promised the museum a Monet called ‘Water Lillies – The Clouds’ from her collection.
The DMA has also announced that it has raised $100m (£53m, E77m) of its $185m (£98m, 142m euros) goal in a fundraising initiative launched in 2003 to secure the museum’s financial future. Details: www.dm-art.org
