Dave Stewart's arts complex to hit London
Dave Stewart, former member of 80s pop group, Eurythmics, is to launch his latest venture next spring when he opens The Hospital, a multi-million pound music, arts and film complex.
Located on the site of St Paul's Hospital in London's Covent Garden, the project is scheduled to open in March 2003 and is the result of a collaboration with Paul G Allen, new media investor and co-founder of Microsoft.
The aim is to create a 'mecca' for media artists and as such, the complex will include an art gallery, cinema, private members' club, conference rooms, library and a 50-seater members-only restaurant. There will also be offices to be leased to businesses in the music and film world. American celebrity chef, Charlie Trotter, will make his UK debut with a 75-seat restaurant at the complex.
The hospital is the latest addition to the Seven Dials area which is experiencing something of an arts revival. The RSC recently moved its head office to the area where Shaftesbury is encouraging up and coming artists and designers.
