David Gray Visits London
The first event, a free Trafalgar Square concert, in Visit London’s tourism recovery Totally London Tour (TLT) campaign has been declared a success.
The Trafalgar Square gig, which kickstarted the Totally London Tour, had headliners David Gray, Morcheeba and Nitin Sawhney playing to a 12,000 capacity crowd on 31 August.
Up to £15m has been allocated by mayor, Ken Livingstone, to Totally London, which is the capital’s biggest ever tourism recovery campaign targeting Londoners, the UK and Europe. Organisers hope the campaign will attract in excess of one million people to the capital.
Mayor Ken Livingstone said: “The concert was a wonderful way to launch the Totally London Tour and shows the potential of Trafalgar Square to host other live events in the future. I am delighted that we are now able to open it up as a unique live venue right in the heart of London.”
The month of free TLT festivals and events will continue throughout September with a 500m sq lawn creation on Regent Street and the Brick Lane Festival, both on 7 September. These will be followed by Covent Garden week on 7-14 September, Chinatown Festival and Open House Weekend on 20-21 September, where hundreds of buildings from the Foreign Office through to art deco cinemas will be throwing open their doors to the public.
