The Next Generation Club in Anniesland, Glasgow is opening a David Lloyd Tennis Academy.

The academy, opening on Tuesday 4 September, will run in the existing 10,604sq m (115,000sq ft) club, and will be the third such academy in the UK.

A range of experts have been recruited, including coaches Judy Murray and Ellinore Lightbody and head of operations Kieron Vorster.

The academy will be managed by Toby Smith, and aims to develop young Scottish tennis players from the age of five.

Initially, nine children aged between six and 11 will be inducted in to the programme and, in January, Toby Smith will collaborate with the other coaches and run a talent identification programme in Scottish primary schools to find another 16 players all born in 2002.

Facilities at the club include indoor and outdoor tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, whirlpool spas, squash and badminton courts, gymnasium and a large aerobic studio.

The site is also home to an outdoor aerobic studio, a hair and beauty salon, sauna, steam room, interactive play area, a restaurant, bar and entertainment and business centre and children’s gym.

The David Lloyd Tennis Academy was launched in May 2004 with the aim of identifying and coaching the UK’s best young players.

Next Generation is owned by London & Regional, which in June acquired the David Lloyd Leisure health club business from Whitbread for £925m.
