De Lux to enter UK cinema market
US-based National Amusements (NA) has revealed plans to roll out its Cinema de Lux concept in the UK.
The company has signed a contract for the first site to be built in the new Broadmead shopping development in Bristol.
The 3,000-capacity Bristol Cinema de Lux will occupy a space of 9,300sq m (100,000sq ft) and will have 13 screens.
Scheduled to open in 2008, the cinema will also feature Cinema de Lux’s premium auditoria concept, called Director’s Halls, which include a concierge-style desk service, leather rocking recliners, reserved seating, live pre-show intros and food and beverage services.
The Cinema de Lux architects, Philadelphia-based FPG, are currently consulting with Chapman Taylor, the architects of the Broadmead scheme.
National Amusements intends to include a number of other types of entertainment on the site – including music and video gaming terminals.
Jennifer Hanson, director of corporate communications, said the company is aiming to provide an entertainment venue that is unrivalled in the UK and is also planning to open further sites across the UK.
The company – one of the world’s largest private cinema companies with 1,400 screens worldwide – currently operates 10 Cinema de Luxs in the US. Details: www.nationalamusements.com
