Decision due on Victoria Leisure Centre
Victoria Leisure Centre at Sneinton Market in Nottingham may be demolished to provide a completely new facility costing £9.2m.
If plans are approved by the city council on 21 April, the proposed leisure centre will offer families a six-lane swimming pool with a separate children’s pool and a fun splash play area, overlooked by a new café.
A fitness and health suite will incorporate a sauna and a steamroom.
Consultants Levitate said: “The New Victoria Baths should be designed to encourage use by all sections of the community, appealing to all generations. To appeal to the maximum number of people, the experience of using the new swimming pools should be the main consideration in the design of the building.”
Portfolio holder for communities, leisure and culture, cllr David Trimble, added: “I would like to thank members of the community who have taken the time to give us their views — without them, we would not have proposals for a new swimming facility on the east of the city to consider.
“Their views have also helped to shape the plans that will now be taken forward to create a first-class facility which will help stimulate the wider regeneration of the area.”
The centre is likely to open to local residents by June 2012.
