Decision made on future of Corvette Museum's famous sinkhole
A decision has been made on whether or not to turn the now world-famous sinkhole at the National Corvette Museum in Kentucky, US into a permanent attraction.
The sinkhole has proved popular among tourists, with attendance at the museum since February up nearly 50 per cent over the same time period in 2013.
The museum has decided to repair the hole, but is awaiting price estimates on the various options to repair the Skydome. Options now include keeping the sinkhole, leaving just a small portion of it, or completely filling the hole in.
The museum's board will meet 25 June to review the proposals and options on both the building and the eight Corvettes swallowed by the sinkhole and make a decision on the plans moving forward.
In the meantime, guests will be able to view the attraction while repairs are made. The Corvettes not restored will be put on display as part of a permanent exhibition telling the story of the sinkhole collapse.
