Defra announces 'green' Olympic grants
Environment secretary Caroline Spelman has announced grant funding for four projects as part of a eco-friendly programme inspired by the London 2012 Games.
Each project will receive £200,000 under the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs' (Defra) Inspiring Sustainable Living funding scheme. BioRegional's One Planet Experience will recruit 2,012 role models, including Olympians and Paralympians, to act as 'community leaders' for sustainability and green living.
East Potential has secured funding for its Inspired to Sustainable Living scheme, which will provide advice to social housing tenants about increasing recycling. Sustrans will offer training and support to volunteers to encourage more healthier transport choices under its Active Travel Champions initiative.
Meanwhile, Groundwork London is to transform 20 areas of derelict land into community gardens under the Transform Project.
