Demand for bottled water hits a high
According to a recent report, sales of bottled water in 2003 reached an all-time high. The study – by Well Well Well, owners of the Ashe Park, Aqua-Pura and Thirsty Work brands – showed that the total bottled water market volume last year rose by 18 per cent, or 310m litres. The sector's total value rose to £1,200m. During the same period, UK consumption of bottled water passed the 2,000m litre mark for the first time, only four years after going through the 1,000m litre level. The on-premise sector achieved a gain of 20 per cent of volume sold in the past 12 months, whilst foodservice outlets saw an increase of 39 per cent and pubs, clubs and bars a rise of 19 per cent. Volume across the leisure sector – hotels, travel and sports and leisure clubs – rose by 2 per cent.
